Watch Fox News try to blame Epstein's sweetheart deal in 2008 on Obama (VIDEO)

Jeffrey Epstein's arrest has been the talk of the town in Washington D.C. after it was found out that Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta was the one behind his sweetheart deal in 2008 that led to Epstein only getting a mere slap on the wrist for trafficking offenses.

In an effort to try to take the heat off the current Trump administration and calls for Acosta's resignation, Fox News' Lawrence Jones and Harris Faulkner tried to blame it on former President Obama.

They overlooked one minor detail: Obama wasn't president in 2008 when Acosta was a U.S. attorney in the Southern District of Florida and made the deal with Epstein. Obama didn't take the oath of office until January 20th, 2009. The deal was made under the George W. Bush administration.

Here's the screw up:

"There's a lot of things that go into these decisions. Things like this do not skip Washington. That means the A.G. knew about it, that means the investigative agency, the F.B.I." said Jones.

Then Faulkner jumped in, trying to somehow blame Nancy Pelosi:  "Some of the favs in the Democratic Party might be on the list here."

"This was in 2008, under a Democratic administration. So it's not just Acosta making the decision here," Jones asserted.

We're not sure if they're making these false statements on purpose or not. For one thing, just look at optics: Fox News has a tendency of trying to bring up or discredit Obama through black spokespersons on their show. They must feel like it's easier to attack a black president this way.

In any case, the statement was false and Fox News should issue a retraction.
