Trump gets his own policy wrong: My tariffs are making China 'pay billions more.' (VIDEO)

President Donald Trump is in the Oval Office right now, welcoming in Hungary's far-right Prime Minister Viktor Orban with welcome arms.

He's also taking questions from the press, and falsely asserting that China is paying 'billions and billions' more since he upped the tariff tax on Friday. But, that's not how tariffs work. Americans receiving those products pay the import tax.

Does Trump even know how tariffs work?

While China isn't paying the extra taxes, here's who could: American farmers. China announced that they will increase tariffs on roughly $60 billion worth of US goods on June 1, which is quickly approaching.

Trump says he has a plan for them, too.

"And out of the billions of dollars that we’re taking in, a small portion of that will be going to our farmers, because China will be retaliating, probably to a certain extent, against our farmers," he said.

Trump continued: "We’re going to take the highest year — the biggest purchase that China has made with our farmers, which is about $15 billion — and do something reciprocal to our farmers, so our farmers can do well, they’ll be planting, they’ll be able to sell for less.”

That sounds like Trump is planning on subsidizing them, because his economic policies don't work in the free market. This was straight from Trump's mouth, too, not hearsay.

While the China negotiations are still ongoing, they don't look to be going well.

Larry Kudlow, Trump's top economic advisor, even admitted that Americans will pay the tariffs.

Given all this information, Trump is still falsely claiming that China is paying them. It simply isn't true.
