Mitt Romney says several senators exposed - Rand Paul went to lunch, gym, swimming with virus (VIDEO)
Senator Rand Paul has the coronavirus. He informed the world about his updated condition on Sunday morning. He's one of the reasons why the Senate couldn't pass coronavirus funding legislation.
Now we have more info from his colleagues who are coming forward. Senator Mitt Romney says Rand Paul was with a bunch of senators at lunch just a few days ago.
Romney said he and other senators were determining the need to self-quarantine.
"We wish him the very best. He's comprised given health conditions he's had in the past. We will be praying for him and thinking about him. And, of course, all the senators will seek medical advice on actions we should take to make sure we don't in any way spread this virus ourselves."
Not only that - but today - Paul was also out and about in several key facilities used by senators according to Seung Min Kim, a reporter for the Washington Post.
"During the Senate GOP lunch today, Senator Jerry Moran told colleagues that Rand was at the gym this morning, per two sources briefed on the lunch, and that he was swimming in the pool. Rand got his COVID-19 results back this morning."
Better not use the pool, senators!
So far, Paul claims he is feeling fine and isn't symptomatic. One of the key issues being raised is how he got tested with no symptoms when people across the country can't get tested even though they're experiencing trouble breathing, fever, and coughs.
"I hope Rand Paul fully recovers. But how did he get a test without symptoms or contacts with a known carrier “out of an abundance of caution” while people with full blown symptoms are pleading for them?" wrote journalist Radley Balko on Sunday after learning of Paul's plight.
This is going to make things harder on the Senate because they've still been unable to compromise with the House and Speaker Pelosi on a final bill. Without Paul's amendment earlier in the week that was voted down 95-3, it's very likely the federal government would be much further along by now.
